We all came out to Montreux on the Lake Geneva shoreline

 우린 모두, 제네바 호숫가 몽트로에 차를 갖고 나왔어

to make records with a mobile We didn’t have much time

레코딩을 할 참이었는데, 시간이 촉박했었지

Frank Zappa and the Mothers were at the best place around

프랭크 자파와 마더스는, 제일 좋은 곳에 자리를 잡았었는데

But some stupid with a flare gun burned the place to the ground.

어떤 한심한 놈들이, 조명탄으로 불을 질러서 폭싹 태우고 말았어.

해서, 호수엔 연기가 자욱하고 · 불길은 하늘로 치솟았었지

호수엔, 연기로 자욱했었어

They burned down the gambling house it died with an awful sound

불길이, 도박장에 무너져 내리면서 끔찍한 굉음이 났고

Funky Claude was running in and out pulling kids out the ground

겁에 질린 클라우드는, 뛰어 다니며 아이들을 끌어냈었지

When it all was over We had to find another place.

화재 사건이 끝나고, 우리는 다른 곳을 찾아야 했었어. 

 

But Swiss time was running out it seemed that we would lose the race

하지만 스위스 일정은 끝나가고 있었고, 우린 예정대로 맞출 수가 없을 것 같았어

We ended up at the Grand Hotel it was empty cold and bare

결국에 가서는, 그랜드 호텔에 묵었는데 춥고 갖춘 것도 없는 곳이었어

But with the Rolling truck Stones thing just outside making our music there.

하지만 롤링 스톤스의 음악 장비로, 그 호텔 밖에서 레코딩은 했었어.

 

With a few red lights, A few old beds We made a place to sweat

빨간 조명과, 낡은 침대뿐인 그 곳에서 우린 땀을 흘렸었지

No matter what we get out of this i know, I know we’ll never forget

이번 일로 어떻게 되든지 간에, 우린 절대 잊지 못할 거야

영국 출신의 락 그룹, 딥 퍼플(Deep Purple)

 

하드 락의 전설이라 불리는 Deep Purple은, 1,968年 데뷔한 영국의 록 그룹으

로 1,970年代 레드 제플린 · 블랙 사바스와 함께 헤비메탈의 선구자이며,

지금까지 1억장 이상의 앨범 판매고를 올린 슈퍼 그룹이다.

 

특히 강력하고도 시원한 하드 록과, 슬픈 록 발라드로 국내를

비롯한 동아시아 지역에서 높은 인기를 누렸었다.  

 

그리고 이 Smoke on the Water는, 그들의 앨범 중에 명반으로 꼽히는 6집

앨범 ‘ Machine Head ’ 에 수록돼 있으며, HighwayStar 

와 함께 그들의 대표작 中의 한 곡이다.
